About Measure R

Vote YES on R to ensure great teachers and bright futures for San Marino students!

San Marino schools continue to rank as some of the best in the nation thanks to exceptional teachers, challenging academic programs, small class sizes and support of our parents and community.

Having a great teacher in the classroom is the most important element of a high-quality education, and San Marino teachers provide an excellent education for our local students.

Critical Funding to End in June
For over 30 years, our San Marino schools have relied on locally controlled parcel tax funds to help us retain our teachers and protect our academic programs. Our parcel tax (known as Measure R) which provides $1.6 million annually in education funding for our schools is set to expire on June 30, 2025.

Renewing Measure R is Not a Tax Increase

It merely reauthorizes the basic parcel tax that voters have been paying and caps any future annual increases to no more than 3%. All funds must stay in San Marino and cannot be taken by the State.

Measure R Funds help:

  • Retain 11 teaching and counseling positions

  • Continue advanced programs in science, technology, engineering, math and career technology

  • Maintain manageable class sizes

Strict Fiscal Accountability Required

Funds cannot be used for administration salaries.  Every penny goes directly to classroom instruction and support. Annual accountability reports continue to ensure proper use of funds.

Measure R Includes Senior Citizen Exemption

Senior citizens (age 65 and older), many on fixed incomes, are eligible for full exemption.

Whether or not you have children in the schools, Measure R is a vital investment in our community.
