San Marino Needs the Nearly 40 Teachers Funded by the Measure.
San Marino schools are among the best public schools in California. Exceptional teachers, challenging programs, and support from parents and the community all contribute to high student achievement.
For 30 years, San Marino schools and children have benefited from the stable local funding provided by voter-approved school parcel taxes. This funding is locally controlled and supplements limited state funding.
The existing parcel tax, Measure E, expires in June 2021. It’s replacement, also called Measure E, merely reauthorizes the basic parcel tax that voters have been paying for decades and caps any future annual increases to no more than 3%. The measure is not a tax increase.
Measure E provides nearly $4 million annually in essential funding for San Marino schools. This is equivalent to 37 teachers. Measure E will allow our school district to retain highly qualified teachers, maintain smaller class sizes, and preserve AP and honors courses that help students qualify for competitive colleges. If Measure E does not pass, every classroom and student in San Marino will be negatively impacted. Teachers will be laid off, class sizes will increase, and many instructional programs will be eliminated.
Every penny from Measure E will stay in San Marino to benefit our schools and cannot be taken away by the State.

What is Measure E?
Measure E reauthorizes the basic parcel tax that San Marino residents have been paying to support our local schools. Funds from Measure E will be used to retain highly qualified teachers, keep instructional technology up-to-date, continue funding for advanced programs in math, science, engineering, tech and robotics, preserve smaller class sizes, and preserve AP courses that help students qualify for the best colleges. This local source of funding has been critical to ensuring that San Marino schools are among the best in the state.

What would happen if Measure E did not pass?
A lot is at stake. If Measure E fails, every classroom in San Marino will be impacted. Teachers will be laid off, class sizes will increase, and many instructional programs will be eliminated.
Doesn’t the San Marino Education Foundation provide funds to support the schools?
Thankfully yes. Parent and community donations provide critical supplemental funding as local contributions and local revenue from voter approved measures account for 40% of our school’s budget.
I do not have children in the schools. How will Measure E benefit me?

How much will Measure E cost property owners?
Measure E will renew and extend the expiring parcel tax at an annual rate of $968 per parcel.
When is the election and who will vote on Measure E?
The election is a mail ballot election with “Election Day” designated as March 2, 2021. Ballots will be sent to all registered voters who live within the San Marino Unified School District boundaries. To pass, Measure E must receive at least 66.7% support from those who vote on the measure.
